The story began when ID found himself thrown out of his third school age 16 and working in gambling arcades around the North. It was here he first grabbed a mic, to call bingo. Joking around back up north while freestyling for banter, a friend bet the studious rapper-to-be that he couldn't get five plays on national radio with his own material. He did. This sparked the beginning of a journey that continues to write itself, as ID finds himself in the big city building his name, and the brand of the growing collective he's begun, known as Problem Child Productions.

Since hooking up with many a head in the hip hop scene, both in London and across the pond with producers such as Willie Green and Fresh Nerd, the realisation that serious graft, good manners and mutual respect are a winning combination, has propelled the up and coming lad over the heads of the competition.

It's this concept of respect, and the sense of professional focus that is integral to the wider Problem Child collective, which represents the business side of the impending release of ID's debut EP, 'Me Myself & ID'.

A deep emotional response to losing to his mother to a chronic illness when he was 21, combined with the need to express himself in his own way, led to the birth of 'Me Myself & ID'. The EP takes the listener on an eclectic journey of style, lyrics and emotion in just 5 tracks. ‘Me Myself & ID’ is a journey through ID’s different personalities (The Devil/The Clown/The Front Man) and each track bears the stamp of these diverse alter egos.

Collaborating with Willie Green, Simon Ellam, Loui Rose, Theo Daniels, SID and Fresh Nerd has guided ID throughout, as he raps his stone-cold truth over bumping piano stabs, huge hand claps, and funked out loops.

With the new EP due be launched at The Camden Enterprise on Thursday 21st April, ID and the Problem Child collective will be taking yet another bold step forward. Support will come correct in the form of New York's PremRock, Lexus Dutty and Granville Sessions. Hosted by Brainlokk, DJ Defunkt and DJ Elkay.

After an awards cememony it was time for the headline act to grace the stage… Identity jumped on armed with a drummer and bassist, I had no idea that they were armed with a laptop, all I remember thinking was ‘how’s he gonna rock the show with just a drummer and bassist?’.

Identity started out by introducing himself, and the context of his release, ‘Me, Myself & ID’. From the jump off, ID just went hardcore, he truely was rocking out! After witnessing the Foxx Bandits, I was intrigued to see whether anything could top such a stellar performance but when ID started rocking the stage, I was kinda thinking ‘Foxx who???’.

Identity floated over the live groove impeccably, what I first thought was a myth or overhyped folklore was quickly disproven by not only his charisma, projection, and stage presence, but the energy. This was not a man who called himself Identity because he was afraid of whether he’d be accepted in the cool inner circle of the ‘Big Smoke’, this was a Yorkshire rapper called Paddy who wore his identity on his sleeve because he was proud of his roots.

Whilst spectating from the back of the venue, I couldn’t help but feel that Identity needs to record a live album because his flow and lyrical wizardry is not for all things polished, produced and quantised. Identity needs to rock to a mixture of live and synthesised music because it’ll accentuate his energy and charisma. His songs are full of much thought and character so I’d love to see that represented by music further outside of his comfort zone because artists like Identity weren’t built to fit in, they were built to stand out. Funnily enough it’s almost as if when he first grabbed the mic in the bingo hall to call out the numbers, he always dreamed of rocking crowds and that night his performance was unparalleled.

Rappers take note because this is how you rock a show; live band, energy, charisma, crowd participation and control.
